Both born and raised on the island of Kaua’i, we have been great friends since before we can remember. We grew up just down the street from one another and our mothers were best friends, as were we. Our childhood was filled with countless lemonade stands, trips to Koke’e and Po’ipu beach, plays and concerts we performed for our families (Punch & Judy anyone?), and a multitude of other adventures.
Helping in the kitchen was one of our favorite activities, however, and seeing as though both Auntie Martha and Auntie Joan are quite good cooks, we were taught well (exploding smoothies notwithstanding). Our moms also kept us awake one night each week as they got together with their girlfriends for their S&B (Stitch and Bitch) gatherings where they would indulge in their latest kitchen creations and do, in my opinion, very little stitching (and a whole lot of storytelling about us).
Despite moving to Massachusetts when Zoe was in middle school, we have remained close friends over the years. Avid cooks and bakers, we are constantly trading great recipes and wanted to find a way to share them more easily with each other and our friends. We dedicate this to our fabulous moms and aunties who throughout the years have kept us well fed, taught and inspired us, and who, when brought together, put on one mean potluck.
So here we are, the next generation of S&B. Enjoy!
Like mother, like daughter…

That’s great you two put this together! Now I really get to see what goes into all of Zoe’s great cooking!!!!

What fun! Just one more way for Erin and Zoe to get into mischief in the kitchen but this time as adults. Yes – who could ever forget the exploding papaya smoothie in Auntie Martha’s kitchen! Quick! Where is my sponge? Looking forward to revisiting tried and true S and B recipes as well as new culinary treats!
Congrats on a great venture!

Okay… for the Department of Unsolicited Advice. This blog could also house recipes from others — for instance: the various Tutus — Shaw, Elpern, Boyd, etc… and wahines like S&B, Denise Kober, whoever is a master of edibles. I’m sure Grandma Elpern and Boyd will help — Nancy’s Beef Strogonoff comes to mind. More work — but fun and a little bit at a time.

Yeah, my local culinary inspiration, Martha, makes the best Nainamo (spelling?)bars on the planet! I bid on a stack of those at a fundraiser silent auction, but someone probably slipped a $100 to the committee and snagged them.
She can even talk with her guests while she cooks. Wow.
